The format for your letter to your teachers
Dear (insert name of your teacher),
My name is (insert your name here) and I am a student in your (period number) period (name of the class). I wanted to write you a letter to inform you of a couple of things. First and foremost, I am an AVID student in Mr. Powell’s (period number) period AVID class. As an AVID student I want to go to college when I graduate high school. Because of this, I want you to know that I will be working hard in your class all year. If I’m ever a problem, please don’t hesitate to let Mr. Powell know. His extension is 39763. I doubt you’ll have to use it though.
More importantly, I wanted to discuss my learning as a student in your class. (Discuss something that teacher does really well.) This helps me because (tell them why it helps you). I was also wondering when are good times for me to come talk to you about anything that I don’t understand in class. Would you prefer me to talk to you (suggest some times that work for you, after class, before class, your lunch, before school, after school)? I’m not sure how much or how often I’ll need help but this year is the most important year that colleges will look at in terms of transcripts so it’s of the utmost importance that I get good grades.
Thank you again for all that you do. I look forward to having a great year with you.
Sincerely,
